It was around new years in the year of the pig that I took these images in Shanghai. At least there were pigs all over, there will be a piggy image after. It was a short and busy trip, so I took a lot of photos at night. More daylight after the jump.
Mid century architecture is by far my favorite style. I have been in love with the idea of living with nature ever since I saw the first Russel Wright bungalow, while I was living in New York. I found out then that MARTa (a museum, not a girl) in Herford is hosting a great Richard Neutra exhibit, showing his work in Europe. And also work that he could not finish. See here for more: http://tiny.cc/2gz01. Then last night I fell in love again with the house in Tom Ford’s A Single Man. What a building! It was build by John Lautner, I did not know him yet, but I like what he did. Check it out: http://tiny.cc/k04vi. And if you have $ 1,5 in yu patty cash: The house is up for sale.
This is definitely one of the most beautiful make-ups I have ever seen. The photographer Hans Silvester travelled to the Omo Valley in Ethiopia many times, because he was fascinated by the unique body art the tribes of Surma and Mursi. Apparently the origins of this amazing decorations are lost in history and now they create them purely for the fun of it. I love the childlike idea behind that as well as the simplicity of the ingredients they need to create the unique and sometimes fragile look. I really love an images of a young guy with a yellow and white face, very simply, who put a red flower behind each ear. I couldn’t find it, but these images give you a very good idea as well. More behind the click. You can also find the images in Silvester’s book “Painted bodie.” I know it is on my wishlist.
2nd Skin is a collection of necklaces and hair adornments made from recycled leather goods and fleamarket found pearls and stones.
Last week, while attenting “Räume der Mode” at Kulturforum, I used the change to slide the slippery floor over to Lipperheidesche Kostümbibilothek for the exhibition ‘High Sixties Fashion”. I must say, I am not a fan of the sixties, but some of the naive drawings I really like for the charms. Plus, I found out that a rainy spring like that calls for some indoor activities can be well spend in this library, that features books, drawing and photographs from 1600 until today. And when you done looking at the 40.000 pieces, summer should have arrived. But serious: wear sneakers, the floors in the building are insanely slippery. More on the library here: http://www.smb.museum/smb/news/details.php?objID=13023 and more images after the jump.

Last weekend I was lucky enough to witness one of Ben Gwilliam’s performances. Since I am usual rather a visual person, I was very happy that he includes some spectacular records made from ice into his performance. And I for once have to admit that I could totally see the story of an elderly explorer in a little wooden boot, fighting his way through giant waves in the polar sea. Well, maybe that is not really the story, but just my imagination. In any case you will have the change to witness three of his spectacular performances -without the ice records, but other accessories- in Berlin before he will return to his homeland. Hurry up and see him this weekend and on the 12th of May. Details under: http://www.thosesoundsbetween.co.uk/
Are you a mountain or a seas person? Me, I love me the waters. And I absolute love the esthetics of anything nautical. So it is no wonder that I am smitten with Julika Müller’s work “Seezeichen”. The jewelry designer is inspired by decaying buoys, hooks and other nautical objects. You can see her work until May 29th at “Mit Fund schmücken” in Berlin Friedrichshain. Flyer after the jump.
